Environment Specifics[edit]

Prefers softer water with a pH of about 6.5-7.0. This plant, like the Java fern, should not have its rhizome buried under the substrate, and instead should be tied to rocks or wood. It is slow-growing and can take its time establishing.

Identification[edit]

A thin-leaved plant that looks like, and is, a fern. The frond colour can vary from bright green to dark green depending on its lighting and conditions. It is rarely seen in shops and expensive. Be very careful when buying B. heudelotii, for many terrestrial ferns are sold as aquatics, such as Trichomanes javanacum and will eventually die if submerged.
